This weekend was pretty stellar, start to finish.

Friday night was spent at my friend’s holiday party which was hosted at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. We looked at some funny, rather old dioramas, ate free food (far too much dessert), and saw a 3D IMAX film. Gosh, that kind of thing does not get old, no matter how many times I see one.

I took no pictures. Whoops.

Saturday dawned, and I took the morning pretty easy.

A wintertime smoothie.

The key to this being tasty, filling, and drinkable was to include all the usual ingredients except the frozen ones. So this was spinach, cottage cheese, almond milk, almond butter, a banana, protein and cocoa powders. It was delicious and cool without being chilling. Perfect!

A midafternoon snack of cheddar toasted on cranberry-walnut bread.

I ate this after a sweaty cardio afternoon at the gym. A nice dose of protein, fat, and carbs to refuel after a workout!

Dinner was something I’d been planning all day, randomly. I even stopped at an organic grocery store to pick up some beef for the meal. Beef? I know, right. Not sure why this seemed so necessary. Perhaps I’m low on iron?

Lovely and quick stir fry dinner.

I sauteed some chopped onion in olive and sesame oils with garlic and ginger before adding the fancy (and pricey! Glad I’m not always a meat eater!) ground beef to cook. I set those aside and seared some mushrooms in the leftover grease, then added zucchini and bok choy to brown before dumping the meat mixture back in the pan with red chili flakes, s+p, and hoisin sauce. So yum! I just finished my final serving of it for dinner and am kind of sad.

Later Saturday night I ended up at a sick show at Cervantes watching some new-to-me-DJs spin their beats. The party was rocking all night!

DJ Starkey warming up the crowd.

Headliner Ill Gates performing some "glitch-hop." (I mean, obviously.)

We were out waaaaay too late that night. Supa fun!

The next morning Emily and I popped up bright and early (not being able to sleep in has its perks!) and hit the road for a day at Keystone.

They become even more beautiful as you get closer.

We ate turkey bacon, eggs, cheddar, and jam English muffins for the road alongside the coffee we were chugging. So necessary! We made it to the lifts and ate bananas for some quick energy before hitting the slopes. Then I slammed a Luna bar on my third lift up, I think. It was a hungry kind of morning (and photoless!).

We had some picturs taken by EpicMix (the professionals who hang out on the mountain and send you the photos later – free for season pass holders!), but the site is down right now! Boo! I’ll put them up tomorrow.

The day was such a success! I am absolutely paying for it now with sore quads, calves, and ankles, but I pushed myself really hard yesterday. According to my EpicMix stats, I skied almost 15,000 feet in just a few hours! I was bombing blues, and even went down my first moguls! Totally terrifying and totally gratifying. I want to try again!

All in all, a solid day, and then we had a killer harvest moon to entertain us as we um, got lost on the way home. Hah.

The orange squiggle? That's the moon. Or my photo attempt to capture it, at least.

I crashed HARD around 7:30 and was asleep by 7:45. Worth it!

This morning I helped myself to some pear, almond, and cottage cheese oatmeal.

So warm and filling after my unusually long night time fast!

The morning at my desk sped by, and I ran out for Chipotle at lunch. I was seriously craving some chips and guac. And, um, more steak.

What's gotten into me?

And now I’m chilling at home with my cat. I’m sure you’re sick of my cat overload these days….but it’s my blog. So here you go.

Gemma's new favorite activity...

Da bird. In da bathtub! Holla!

Cheers! xoxo
