I’ve always loved that phrase, even though I’ve never seen the film.

And don’t mind the third person reference. Everyone does that, right? Right?

Anyway, today was my first real, full, normal day in a loooooong time, and it felt so perfect. From my alarm going off way too early, to chugging my morning coffee, to 3:00 desk munchies, to clearing out my mental cache with some evening sweaty power yoga – today just made sense.

I felt like an adult again.

Beyond that, I felt like a Denverite. This city is officially mine. I’m becoming significantly less dependent on Google Maps for directions (eh, sort of), I’m meeting up with friends for events around town, and I’m learning the rhythms of the city. As I was driving into downtown tonight, I was struck by the familiarity of the glowing Denver skyline, and how quickly it became my skyline.

Feeling pensive about how much life has changed in the past 6 weeks, I suppose. What good is change if you don’t take a few moments to appreciate it now and then?

Musings aside, I ate some good food today.

Zucchini for breakfast just makes sense.

This was another variation on the microwave oat cakes around the blogosphere, one I haven’t made in a while. If you have half a small zucchini chilling in your fridge (maybe that’s just me…?), make this. Super simple. Shred the zucchini (I use about a cup), then mix in an egg, some mashed banana, a dash of vanilla, and some applesauce if you’re feeling frisky. Combine, then add 1/5 c of oats, chias, and a nut of choice (I used walnuts). Microwave for 3 minutes or until it pulls away from the sides of a bowl. Invert on a plate, top with maple syrup, and enjoy!

I love getting a veggie in before noon.

Unfortunately, despite the heft of this breakfast, eating it before 8:00 inevitably meant that I was RAVENOUS come 11:00. On principle I think it’s ridiculous to eat lunch before 12:00, but my stomach and subsequent lack of focus meant I ate around 11:30. It made me feel defeated. I wish I had better control over my hunger.

At least it was good!

At the lone dining table.

This was a mixed greens salad with broccoli slaw (the super convenient pre-shredded stuff!), radishes, green onion, chickpeas, chicken, cashews, and peanut dressing. The cashews made it. On the side, some sad strawberries.

Then I ran a quick errand to get a few vintage lamps rewired. I’m excited to set one up at my cube! The other will likely be my bedside table, we’ll see. Pictures tomorrow!

Snack was consumed a bit later.

The last of the red wine cake and the cashews.

I also had a Kind bar at some point. And then I went exploring!

Our fancy break room/coffee station.

What is that? A chair in a closet? NAP CLOSET!!!

Inexplicably, this closet is ENORMOUS, and contains an equally enormous chair and a half. We had the ugliest, comfiest fat-man chair in college, and it was big enough to nap in. SO IS THIS ONE. A co-worker saw me open the closet and said he would have been napping there all along if he’d known about it.

So: a) what are the chances that a lot of people know about this chair? b) what are the chances people actually nap there? and c) what are the chances that I’ll actually nap there one day?

Only time will tell. :)

Cat interlude.

I hit up a free Corepower class tonight with a girlfriend, and gladly got my sweat on.

My dear, dear friend.

When I’m done with half training, I’m going to get a month pass to Corepower and try and go every single day. I’ve lost so much muscle tone and gained a lot of fat since…well, recently, and I think hot power yoga every day would get me back to where I want to be. We’ll see. Running will NOT be on the agenda, that’s for sure. My joints will thank me later.

Quickie dinner.

This was a Morningstar black bean burger topped with goat cheese, half a microwaved sweet potato with coconut butter, and garden fresh tomatoes. Which I gleefully ate while watching the GLEE PREMIERE!!! (I <3 Megavideo.)

I’m interested to see where this season goes. Hoping the introduction of new (and changed) characters will push it beyond the same Nationals/Sue-Mr. Shue/Rachel Berry drama of seasons past. Anyone else out there a Gleek???

Now that you know every intimate boring detail of my day, I’ve gotta shower and crash. Don’t wanna test that nap closet too soon in the game, eh? :) xoxo
